It may be hard to believe but the show by the Blue Man Group actually exceeds NCL`s hype! It was the most unique (... yes I`m using that word again... ) and professional act I`ve seen on any cruise ship. Thoroughly funny and entertaining I would rather see that show night after night than to sit through some of the same old Broadway song-and-dance shows I`ve seen on so many other cruise ships. The Blue Man performance was in the ship`s main theatre which considering the size of the Epic was relatively small (with a seating capacity of under 600 people). However despite that fact the theatre was not packed because consistent with NCL`s concept of Freestyle Cruising the Epic was designed with multiple entertainment venues each offering a different show.
Standard inside cabin. This type of cabin has no windows and is located on the inside corridor. It is usually carpeted and furnished with a telephone TV and air conditioning unit. The standard inside cabins of newer cruise liners includes a refrigerator small vault table loveseat and an Internet access. The bathroom has a shower but typically is small with no tub. It usually has a retractable clothesline for hanging wet garments to dry.
Unlike fractional ownership of aircraft and houseboats fractional owners of a cruise ship can all use the ship simultaneously. There is plenty of room for you and the other owners to live on the ship any time you want or all the time. You can use it as a full-time residence and so can the other co-owners.
Ship fuel is cheaper than automobile fuel for a few reasons. There are no road taxes on ship fuel of course and also it is different fuel. Ships main engines usually run on IFO180 or IFO380. Generator engines tend to be more finicky and commonly require diesel (MDO) which is still cheaper than automotive diesel. IFO 180 and 380 costs much less than MDO usually about half the price. Ships consume a lot of fuel. So fuel cost is a major concern. I have some suggestions. If I were a co-owner of a ship I would be willing to invest a little more in the ship to increase fuel efficiency and thus lower operating costs. There are many things that can be done to increase fuel efficiency. I would start with hull resistance. There is a new silicone-based paint from International Paints that when applied to the hull reduces amount of resistance in the water sufficiently to result in a 3 to 5% decrease in fuel consumption. A similar coating for the propellers also has been proven to increase fuel efficiency.
Cost is typically the primary concern of most travelers. The more amenities a cabin offers the more it will cost. For example cabins with a balcony typically cost 25% more than cabins with just a window. Windowless cabins cost far less but guests are left with no view. It is important to know what you are willing to live without on your trip. If a balcony is not that important then forego it to save money for entertainment or a future trip. Cabin sizes will differ on different cruise lines. The smallest rooms on larger cruise ships will be bigger than some of the larger rooms on smaller cruise ships. Many people prefer to get a smaller room and extend their vacation. After all the cabin is just a place to sleep. All of the fun and entertainment is above deck.
